The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) develops performance and other standards for the electroindustry; crafts and executes advocacy campaigns; and provides analytical products to assist member companies with business decisions.


The Manager Communication Services maintains editorial and stylistic standards, quality, and content accuracy of all communications. The position develops, edits, and publishes written and visual content; manages NEMA social media channels; and provides billable communication services to NEMA Sections and MITA.


This position generates story ideas for, edits all content of, and is integral to readying for publication a monthly magazine, biweekly electronic newsletter and all specialty publications generated by NEMA Sections and MITA. The incumbent produces concise written copy for press releases and Member communications; creates and maintains production calendars; writes, edits, and proofreads written corporate communication products.


This position demonstrates a superior ability to craft effective social media messaging and edit content for accuracy, clarity, and quality. In addition, this individual writes, edits, and produces podcasts and videos and assists with implementing marketing communications that support NEMA Sections and MITA.


The incumbent reports to the Senior Director, Communications and Marketing.

The position is in Arlington (Rosslyn), Virginia, and may include up to 20 percent time on travel.


Key Responsibilities


I. Develop, edit, and produce NEMA communications
• Manage production schedules and editorial calendars with internal and external writers
• Maintain editorial and stylistic standards, quality, and accuracy of content
• Write and edit press releases, corporate communications, and stories ranging from research-heavy features to concise industry news
• Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief on all aspects of monthly magazine publication


II. Establish, maintain, and evaluate social networks
• Integrate social media into all NEMA-wide and Section communication plans
• Develop, publish, and promote blog posts
• Write and edit scripts for podcasts and videos coaching speakers as needed
• Develop measures of effectiveness for social media and analyze for insights


III. Provide billable communications support to NEMA Sections and special interest groups
• Work in teams with internal clients to assess their needs and accomplish strategic initiatives and other NEMA-wide goals
• Generate and pitch project scopes of work (SOW) to NEMA Sections to meet Department revenue goals
• Provide support services as outlined in approved SOW, including basic web design and content maintenance, audio/video recording and editing, design and production
• Manage approved project budgets as outlined in the SOW


Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (...) journalism, or similar a strong plus
• Experience writing and editing with in-depth knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style
• Experience managing production schedule or similar project management
• Demonstrated experience creating and measuring social media campaigns
• Clear leadership and team-building aptitude in results-oriented environment
• Ability to conceptualize, write, edit, and schedule content for multiple publications
• Ability to inspire others to deliver in deadline-driven environment
• Polished verbal and written communication skills and executive presence
• Strong computer skills; Adobe Photoshop and InDesign experience a plus
• Proficiency with content management systems, such as WordPress
